A Land's End to John O'Groats Charity Walk

Hello bloggers,

Ed and I are currently sat in Fort William's library and are feeling extremely pleased with ourselves as we have just completed the west highland way. Eight days of beautiful breathtaking scenery and magnificent mountains. Wow wow wow. I highly recommend doing it as a holiday to anyone! The highlands really are a magical place to be.

We are both feeling happy and healthy - no injuries, no blisters. We are, however, both peppered in midge bites. We spent one night camping on Rannoch Moor and it was fine until the morning when we woke up to very still weather and our tent absolutely shrouded in a black mist of midges. Horrendous. To top it off as well I had a very bad stomach that morning and had to do my business on the moor asap that morning. Where we camped was quiet and out of view of passing walkers (which were bound to be few at that time in the morning) and so I whipped on my top, mosquito net, socks and boots and braved the midges. Now my bottom and nether regions are absolutely covered in bites and are rather itchy and sore. Nice. Nat, you would have absolutely hated it!

On the plus side of things we have some amazing pictures which we will put up on here eventually!

So...~2 more weeks of walking to go! How exciting! Am feeling on top of the world that we've made it so far. Looking forward to our day off tomorrow, will be good to rest the joints. Have definitely got fitter and stronger as the pack doesn't feel that heavy anymore!

Hi Both,

Haven't been on here for a while and there were loads of blogs and supportive comments to read which was really nice as now I know whereabouts you are!

It's mad to think that in the time you are walking the length of GB, I'll have gone on holiday to ibiza for a week and back and you'll still be out there walking lol. Hope your spirits are high as a kite anyway and that you're both feeling well. How are you managing in all this rain? It's awful! Floods everywhere, the ground must be soaking wet. Hope you've got your froggy wellies Carl ;)

Saw a message on here which Eve had 'wrote' which was so cute. Saw her last week or week before and she said she misses you anyway. x x

If you get chance, give me an e-mail at work [email protected] or at home [email protected], would be great to hear from you.

Lots of love to you both, really proud of you.

If I don't speak to you in the time you're away, stay safe please and bring me home a souvenier a stick or a rock lol!

Love,

Rach xxxxxxxx

Hi Carlie & Ed,

I am now writing this for nanny as she has written it twice and lost it both times! Ah Bless! Anyway she said " I am so proud of you both. Glad to hear your shin splints are better and that you are now enjoying the Scottish scenery. Get Ed to rub some lotion on the midge bites, I'm sure that will make them better! Lol! Looking forward to seeing you soon and hearing about it all in person.

Lots of love

Nan

Hello Carlie and Ed!
When I was at Inverness in 1970, we went a few miles out from there to Dores where there was an Inn right on Loch Ness. I hope it's still open and may be on your route. The bartender couldn't be the same (as he was in his seventies then!) but he had some fascinating yarns (swore they were true stories) about various people's sightings of Nessie. It was a delightful chat and then for nearly an hour I walked the shoreline, hoping the legendary creature would pop up and greet a California girl! Alas, no such luck for me.
Grand to hear of your latest adventures, and the fine visit in E. Kilbride. May the rest of your memorable journey be safe, dry, and just as rewarding!
Love from CA, Claudia and Mike
